Located next to the new (covered) car park, the law courts and government offices, the above building is one of the oldest in the centre of Curacao Punda with a unique ballustraded floor-elevated facade. No doubt you will agree that it is an architectural gem in the ranks of Curacao’s monuments.
The building is to be considered an historic milestone, very conducive in attracting Curacao’s tourists and visitors, in the midst of the bustling shopping district and in the vicinity of the oldest synagogue in the new world. In fact, from legated sources, we understand that the building was at an early time the residence of the Ecclesiastical leaders serving the synagogue and also served as an Old Testament Bible college.
The large interior space has previously been rented to an off-shore company and also to the offices of lawyers and notaries. It is well suited to a financial, judicial or artistic enterprise with the possibility of promoting Curacao’s art, folklore and handicraft, highlighted by natives, musical instruments and occasional typical dance performances to provide an attraction to tourists.
No doubt its acquisition would be the crown in Curacao’s Monumentenzorg and would provide a boost to the shopping environment, and it therefore deserves your attention. A plaque as to the history of the building could be placed at the entrance to the building.
